A Word from the Editor
******
I have some good news and some bad news. First, the bad news.
Film legend Stanley Kubrick has passed into mythical status
following his death on Sunday, March 7. Our next issue will be
a tribute to Stanley Kubrick.
Now some good news. This newsletter has just reached 150
subscribers. I would like to personally thank everyone for your
support.
Second, "Monster News" magazine will be re-printing some of the
articles found in the H.F.O. newsletter. This will give us some
good publicity.
Pretty good week, if you ask me. If you would like to write an
article for the H.F.O. Newsletter, please visit:

Talk to you around the 1st of April... or will I ??

"8MM": A film about a film? Well, almost. - Pat McGreal

Andrew Kevin Walker has done it again. When his pen touched
paper, modern horror magic is created. First we received the
truly unforgettable "Seven", and now we get a feast for the eyes
with "8MM".
Nicholas Cage ("Face-off", "Leaving Las Vegas") stars as Tom
Wells, a private investigator hired by a rich woman to find a
missing person. The only thing they have to identify her is an
8mm film ... a snuff film. Was the girl actually murdered, or
was it just another fake? That's what Tom needs to find out, but
he will be unable to do it alone. Enter Max California (Joaquin
Pheonix), a young, streetwise porn-shop clerk hired by Tom to get
him into an underground world of illegal porn.
Visually stunning and backed by an excellent script, "8MM" is a
great way to spend an evening out. It was somewhat disturbing,
but did not disturb me as much as I had expected it to. When
speaking with friends, I came to a conclusion.
For those of you who are hardcore horror fans, which most of you
are, it won't disturb you that much, but those of you who don't
watch as much horror will definitely be disturbed. One of my
friends actually had nightmares after watching "8MM". I must say,
I'm jealous. I haven't had nightmares from watching a movie since
I was a child.

Prepare to "Scream" once again - Pat McGreal
******
Miramax Films has brought Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven back
together for a third "Scream" film.
Set in Hollywood, Sydney Prescott, portrayed by Neve Campbell,
has finally put her past behind her and has begun to pursue her
dreams of becoming an actress, but what she doesn't know is that
an old friend has decided to join her in the movie capitol of the
world. Who is Father Death this time?
Actors set to return to their previous roles include David
Arquette as Dewey, Neve Campbell as Sydney and Courtney Cox as
Gail Weathers. Filming is planned to begin in May and an early
December release is expected.
Might Sydney's first role be that of a victim in a horror flick?
We'll just have to wait and see.

The Passing of a Legend - Pat McGreal
******
On Sunday March 7, legendary film-maker Stanley Kubrick died his
sleep, leaving behind him a legacy of films that won eight
Oscars, a lot considering he only made 13 films, inlcuding his
long-awaited "Eyes Wide Shut."
Kubrick was considered among one of the greatest directors in the
history of films. Three of his films, "A Clockwork Orange", "The
Shining", and "2001: A Space Odyssey", were selected by the AFI
to be on its greatest 100 films list.
Next issue, the entire issue will be a tribute to the man and
legend Stanley Kubrick. If you would like to be a part of this
tribute, send an e-mail to webmaster@horrorfilms.8m.com telling
me what his films meant to you.
R.I.P. Stanley Kubrick 1928-1999.
