A Word from the Editor
******
Two weeks have passed since I last wrote this column. The
newsletter seems to be coming along nicely. My first concern
when I thought of the concept was that there wouldn't be enough
horror news to fill every issue. I was way off the mark there. My
next concern had to do with you. How many people would want to
receive horror news in their e-mail every two weeks? Apparently,
a pretty large number. Thank you.
After the first issue went out, I got an e-mail from the editor
of Monster News magazine saying that they will be doing a small write-up about our little newsletter.
Keep an I out for that in their April issue. By the way, thanks
Cheryl.
I have archived the first issue at:
http://horrorfilms.8m.com/archive/vol1iss1.htm , so go check that out if you missed it.
If you enjoy this newsletter, please forward it on to a friend you
think would also enjoy it.
Now, on with the news.

Gods and Monsters, The Tale of a Horror Legend - Pat McGreal
******
From executive producer Clive Barker and director Bill Condon
(Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh) comes Gods and Monsters, a film
reliving the life and career of director James Whale, the man
behind the original Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein films.
Gods and Monsters stars Brendan Fraser, Sir Ian McKellan as the
late James Whale and Lynn Redgrave. Their brilliant performances
lead to three golden globe nominations for the film: Best
Picture, Best Actor: Ian McKellan and Winner for Best Actress in
a Supporting Role: Lynn Redgrave.
During the golden age of Hollywood, James Whale was never
accepted into Hollywood's inner circle. Though respected for his
work, Whale was a homosexual before alternate lifestyles were
accepted by society. Hiding in the shadows, feeling like a
monster from his own films, Whale was never able to find
happiness. Gods and Monsters brings this untold story to life.
Gods and Monsters is now playing in limited engagements
throughout the U.S and Canada. To find a showing near you, visit
http://www.godsandmonsters.net/theaters.htm for a list of
participating theaters. For more information about this film,
visit www.godsandmonsters.net/index.htm .
Update: Gods and Monsters has been nominated for three academy
Awards, including Best Actor: Ian McKellan, Best Supporting
Actress: Lynn Redgrave and Best Adaptation for a Screenplay.

"Brimstone" Falls After Unlucky 13 - Pat McGreal
******
The supernatural drama "Brimstone" has been scheduled to be
pulled from Fox after its 13th episode airs. The show will
run through February sweeps, but will not return in March.
"Brimstone" had gathered a small, but loyal, following, but
was unable to grasp the attention of viewers the way Fox's
other supernatural dramas "Millenium" and "The X-Files" had.
Fox has not decided what will fill the time slot, but
current candidates include "Guinness World Records:
Primetime" and the reality based supernatural show "Beyond
Belief". One episode of "Brimstone" will be preempted by the
airing of the thriller films "Seven".

Stephen King's Storm of the Century - Pat McGreal
******
The town of Little Tall Island is preparing for a storm... a
Storm of the Century. They are not prepared for what has come
with the storm, a supernatural evil no one could have prepared
for.
Stephen King brings the tale of a small town, its inhabitants and
their lives to the small screen in his first ever written for TV
movie. Past mini-series from Stephen King include The Langoliers,
The Shining, It and the eight-hour long The Stand, but Storm of
the Century is unique from these. This tale was never meant to be
a novel. Though the teleplay has been released in paperback,
this tale was woven to be shown on TV.
The three-part mini-series, scheduled to begin on February 14 on
ABC will star Tim Daly, Colm Feore, Debrah Farentino and a host
of others. Storm of the Century is directed by Craig Baxley and
co-executive produce by Stephen King and Emmy Award winner Mark
Carliner (George Wallace, Stalin).
